Where The Crawdads Sing Book Recommendation
The world of words, literature, creativity, and curiosity. Home to fictional characters, a place of stories, a once upon a time, and a happily ever after.
There is a beauty in reading that many people have not yet discovered. The more I read, the more pages I continue to flip; I don’t only get closer to the end of the story, I get one step closer to falling in love with reading.
There are so many benefits to reading, and you may think picking up a book is the most boring thing in the world. However, as Delia Owens wrote in one of her best-selling books – Where the Crawdads Sing, “words hold so much,” and it is true; there is a whole world sitting in books, waiting for someone to open the page and turn those words into imaginations in your head. I was not one of those girls who read for hours on end every day until I found a hidden place in the pages of a book.
There are thousands of books, so where do you start? Let me introduce you to a New York Times bestselling novel Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. I recently read this book that I honestly could not put down. I was captivated by every word on every page.
A little background behind this passionate, tragic tale
The tale of an abandoned child left to fend for herself, with the marsh as her only ally. A girl who is forced to go from an innocent child to an adult. She once had love, love from her family. However, there are predators in the wild, and her predator was her father; she lived tormented by her father’s hand, who drove every family member to disappear to become nonexistent.
She lived with the sound of the marsh and the strangers’ voices, who only showed her hate, rejection, and disapproval. The world turned its backs on her. She was treated like an outsider, so she became one. Nonetheless, Kya is unlike any other. So many others would not survive the burdens left as a souvenir from her past, the loneliness, and the feeling of abandonment. Yet Kya was brave, strong, and had a positive outlook; she was fragile and gentle. Kya always made it through. Even as her story gets darker, now involving a crime, she never caved in.
Why should you read Where the Crawdads Sing?
This book has a wide range of genres. It does not fall into just one—Crime, Thriller, Mystery, Romance, Family, and many more are featured in this story. This book alone can make you tear up, smile, laugh, and frown. It will give you hope and then take it away. It resembles love from different perspectives, it creates heroes and villains, and it will make it almost impossible to stop reading because of the suspense and love triangles. In simpler words, it is just an excellent book.
The Beauty of Where the Crawdads Sing
It represents the strength of a woman, a brave outsider who never backed down, regardless of the hate, the lies, the abandonment, the broken promises, the I love you’s, the slaps, the tears, the shattered memories, and the treachery. She lived on a treacherous road, but she always kept her head high and knew her worth even when no one else saw it. At the end of the day, you should know, on some occasions, or throughout your life like Kya, you only have yourself, your heart, your mind, and your strength. You may search the deepest sea and the driest desert, but you may not always find someone to lean on and know you have two shoulders to cry on, and they are enough.
If you learn something from Kya, know your worth and keep your eyes open; predators are out there.
Where the Crawdads Sing movie adaptation
On July 15, a film adaptation released worldwide. After you read this marvelous book, I highly recommend spending two hours of your day watching and living this film. The movie stayed true to the book and the characters. It is an authentic adaptation of Delia Owens’s story.
Carolina – Original soundtrack by Taylor Swift
Many others have been captivated by this story, and one includes no other than singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Who wrote an original song called Carolina about Kya, her life, and her legacy. As Swift described herself in an Instagram post, “I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerizing story.” She stayed true to her promise because this song it’s the perfect way to represent this book in music.
“I wasn't aware that words could hold so much. I didn't know a sentence could be so full.”
