Horror Movies to Binge-Watch

Horror Movies to Binge-Watch

What's your favorite scary movie? Sound familiar? Are you getting goosebumps already?

The horror movie industry is one of the best ways to prove that humans are insane. This is because we basically pay and watch horror movies for the sole purpose of being scared. This includes screaming, jumping at any noise during the night, checking under the bed, and constantly checking behind you just because you think someone is following you.

There is nothing better than the rush of adrenaline that rushes through the body when you realize you are about to be frightened. This is the moment when you cover your eyes, and your heart rate begins to quicken as the door starts creaking and the main character is one step away from turning around. We love screaming at the screen - don't go upstairs! Turn around and run! Even though no one can hear it, the stressful moment during a horror film sounds like ecstasy.

For generations, horror films have spooked people to their bones. Keeping with tradition, we will let the darkest minds rule our screens each fall just before Halloween.

It's thriller night, and tonight the monsters will appear on the TV screens, so turn off the lights, grab some popcorn, and turn the volume up. What should I watch, you ask? To get your scream on this Halloween, here is a list of horror movies you should binge-watch.

Halloween - Michael Myers

One of the best movie sagas to watch this Halloween, it is called Halloween after all, so I mean it fits, don't you think? The Halloween franchise has become a horror classic. It has become a tradition for many people to watch Halloween every Halloween night. Myers has become an iconic character in horror movie history. His attire and terrifying mask have been an inspiration for costumes during the spooky season.

This movie will make you debate whether or not to trick or treat this year.

Films in Order:

  • Halloween (1978)
  • Halloween II (1981)
  • Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
  • Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
  • Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
  • Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)

When you think it’s over, Michael Myers returns to kill on Halloween night as a new trilogy debuts on the big screen.

  • Halloween Ends (2022)

Scream - Ghostface

You are home alone; the moon is the only light outside, and then...RING... RING... RING... The phone is all but quiet. Then you hear... "What's your favorite scary movie?" Your life becomes a quiz game. If you get one question wrong, your doom will follow along. Scream films took over the 90s and early 2000s as Ghostface terrorized the lives of teenagers. His game is based on the characters of horror films. Who is the man behind the mask? Watch scream and find out.

Films in order:

  • Scream (1996)
  • Scream 2 (1997)
  • Scream 3 (2000)
  • Scream 4 (2011)
  • Scream (2022)

 The Conjuring

Ed and Lorraine Warren have been battling ghosts and demons for years. Their stories and investigations have been spread throughout multiple films. It all started with The Conjuring (2013) and has continued through Annabelle (2014) and The Nun (2018.)

Films in order:

  • The Conjuring (2013)
  • Annabelle (2014)
  • The Conjuring 2 (2016)
  • Annabelle Creation (2017)
  • The Nun (2018)
  • Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
  • The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)

Paranormal Activity

Following “The Blair Witch Project” method of filmmaking, which showcases instead of a film crew filming actor, in this case, the actors are the ones who film the scenes of the movie. This method makes audiences feel like a part of the movie because you are right there with them as they experience absolute raw horror.

Paranormal activity is all about fearing what you cannot see. Nothing ever shows in the course of these films. The sound of objects unexpectedly moving and your darkest imagination makes the film experience terrifying.

What was that sound? Are those footprints, yet where are the feet? How did that move, yet no one is around? Those questions we ask ourselves are the paranormal activity each family experiences throughout the films, all caught by a camera.

Films in Order:

  • Paranormal Activity (2007)
  • Paranormal Activity 2 (2010)
  • Paranormal Activity 3 (2011)
  • Paranormal Activity 4 (2012)
  • Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014)
  • Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015)
  • Paranormal Activity: Next Of Kin (2021)

Friday the 13th - Jason

Are we out of the woods yet? Are we in the clear yet? Umn… no!

Jason is out there. Let’s talk about a plot twist! This movie has a big one. Don’t worry, I won’t spoil it if you haven’t seen it. There have been many Friday the 13th films. All based on the day when the calendar says Friday the 13th. A group of friends gathers in the woods to spend a wild weekend. At first, it is peacefully quiet in the woods, too quiet, then the sound of calmness is broken by thumps on the leaves, and the last thing you see is a machete. Blood splatters through the woods as each character tries to make it out alive.

Will Jason ever stop? Should I be scared on Friday the 13th? Girl, just stay out of the woods, and you’ll be fine and if a guy named Jason approaches, run!

Films in order:

  •  Friday the 13th (1980)
  • Friday the 13th Part II (1981)
  • Friday the 13th Part III (1982)
  • Friday the 13th The Final Chapter (1984)
  • Friday the 13th A New Beginning (1985)
  • Friday the 13th (2009)

Stranger things happen in this film. The inexplicable occurs, making you question whether there is more after death and whether demons are real. The perfect little family experience terror like no other as their excitement of moving to a brand-new home turns into tears and screams as they step into a world too dark, too bizarre, and too cold.

Insidious opened a new door for modern horror, and we will have to wait and see what is behind the next door. Now the question is, will you open it?

 Films in order:

  • Insidious (2011)
  • Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)
  • Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015)
  • Insidious: The Last Key (2018)

 The Exorcist

Last but certainly not least, the film where it all started, the one piece of work that assembled a world of terror and screams. The exorcist drives through a road full of demonic behavior, presences, satanic experiences, and the unholy—the film making it the ultimate horror film classic of all time.

The movie tells the sinister tale of a priest curing a child who has been taken by the demonic. Exorcisms occur as we witness the satanic exit the girl’s body and return to hell once and for all. Did it return to hell? Well, maybe it did, but drops of its presence stayed in the thousands of horror movies made since the release of the exorcist back in 1973.

Films in order:

  • The Exorcist (1973)
  • The Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977)
  • The Ninth Configuration (1980)
  • The Exorcist III (1990)
  • Exorcist: The Beginning (2004)
  • Domination: Prequel to the Exorcist (2005)

Animated Spooky Films - An honor to Tim Burton

The Nightmare Before Christmas - Jack Skellington

A Halloween classic, both a fall and Christmas film. Jack Skellington's story has been a fan favorite for years. Do you know the phrase, "Do not judge a book by its cover"? Well, that sums up jack's story, a walking dead skeleton who was tired of the dark and wanted something bright and something new and sweet. No more screams, no more tricks, but wanted joy and appreciation for small kind gifts and gestures.

Although no one understood and believed in him, he still gave it his heart – or lack of an actual heart – and made his once dream a reality as he found love with a girl broken but still standing – literally.

A fall without watching the nightmare before Christmas will never be complete.

Okay, let's set one thing straight. Whoever said this is a kid's film, think again. A little story about me: I watched this film when I was five, alongside my eight-year-old sister. So let me tell you from experience that it is not a kids' film!

Coraline is another movie where we go in deep into Tim Burton's peculiar creative mind as he introduces the life of a young girl named Coraline, whose curiosity takes her to a dangerous place. As we watch the movie unfold, we understand that not everything that shines is gold; there is much more to people than meets the eye, and Coraline discovers this truth in the saddest of ways. Watch this "kids film" at your own risk and before you watch it, tell your parents you love them and thank them. Why should I do that now? You may ask, watch Coraline, and you will find out.

My first horror film was "A Nightmare on Elm Street". I was about eight years old; why so young you ask? Well, it was Halloween, and I didn't even make it to the end. After that film, all I heard was one...two...three...Freddy is here. That was my first horror movie; what's yours?
